Error: Unable To Process Create Message when adding profile sync connection to Sun LDAP


When you try to create a synchronization connection in a User Profile Service Application in SharePoint Server 2010, you may receive an "Unable to process Create message." error message.


You are trying to create a synchronization connection to a Sun Java System Directory Server with a version number different than 5.1 or 5.2.

Be aware the “Unable to process Create message” error is a generic error and can be caused due to many reasons.

To resolve this problem, create the following registry key and specify the version of the Sun Java System Directory Server you are attempting to connect to.

  • Click Start, click Run, type Regedit, and then click OK.
  • Locate and then right-click the following registry key:
    • Click New, and then click Multi-string Value
    • Set the following parameter values:
      • Value name: iPlanetMASupportedServers
      • Value type: (REG_MULTI_SZ) 
      • Set the value of the registry key to the following value:

        Sun-Java(tm)-System-Directory/6.3 B2008.0311.0946
Note The precise format of the value will vary in different versions of Sun ONE. Be sure to use the correct version number for your environment.
