Stop error during startup in Windows Server 2008 or in Windows Vista

Symptoms

A computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista may restart unexpectedly during the startup process. Additionally, you receive a Stop error that resembles one of the following:
STOP 0x00000050 (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
STOP 0x000000D1 (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
STOP 0x0000001E (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
STOP 0x0000000A (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
STOP 0x0000001A (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
STOP 0x000000C2 (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
BAD_POOL_CALLER
STOP 0x0000007E (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
Notes
  • The parameters in the Stop error messages vary, depending on the configuration of the computer.
  • Not all these Stop errors are caused by this issue.
  • This issue usually occurs after you reset the teaming configuration of a network adapter.
  • This issue may occur on a computer that is running a 64-bit version of Windows Server 2008 and that has 6 or more gigabytes (GB) of physical memory installed.
  • This issue does not occur on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2.

Cause

This issue occurs because of an error in the Server service driver (Srvnet.sys).

When the driver registers the teaming configuration of a network adapter, the memory pool is corrupted. Therefore, the issue that is described in the "Symptom" section occurs.

Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 file information notes
Important Windows Vista hotfixes and Windows Server 2008 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, only "Windows Vista" is listed on the Hotfix Request page. To request the hotfix package that applies to one or both operating systems, select the hotfix that is listed under "Windows Vista" on the page. Always refer to the "Applies To" section in articles to determine the actual operating system that each hotfix applies to.
