Error messages are not displayed or are not redirected when you run the FTP command and a connection error occurs in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

Applies to: Windows Server 2008 R2 EnterpriseWindows Server 2008 R2 DatacenterWindows Server 2008 R2 Standard More

Symptoms

You run the FTP command to connect to an FTP server from an FTP client that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. If a connection error occurs, no error messages are displayed. Additionally, if the FTP command output is redirected to a file, no error messages are logged in the file.

For example, if you run the FTP command to connect to 1.1.1.1, you expect a connection failure. However, the FTP command prompt is returned, and no error messages are displayed. The following is a screenshot for this example.

FTP returns no error messages
