Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release.

Introduction

This article describes a hotfix that enables you to use Package Installation Wizard (Dtsinstall.exe) to run the deployment manifest file of a SQL Server Integration Services 2008 (SSIS 2008) package on a computer on which SSIS 2008 is not installed.

More Information

Assume that you install Business Intelligence Development Studio 2008 (BIDS 2008) on a computer on which SSIS 2008 is not installed.

Before you install this cumulative update package, you receive the following error message when you try to deploy an SSIS package by double-clicking a deployment manifest file that has an .SSISDeploymentManifest extension to open Package Installation Wizard, or by running Dtsinstall.exe from the command line:

ERROR: The Package Installation Wizard requires Integration Services to be installed by one of these editions of SQL Server 2008: Standard, Enterprise, Developer, or Evaluation. To install Integration Services, run SQL Server Setup and select Integration Services.

After you apply this cumulative update package, this error will not occur when you run the deployment manifest file of an SSIS 2008 package.

Note This issue does not occur when you run the deployment manifest file of a SQL Server Integration Services 2005 (SSIS 2005) package on a computer on which SSIS 2005 is not installed.
