Configuring Internet Explorer proxy settings in response to malware

Summary

The following section will provide steps to follow if you are unable to browse to http://safety.live.com because a computer is showing symptoms of malware that has compromised browsing functionality, such as the Win32/FakeSpypro infection.

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Click on Tools
  3. Click on Internet options
  4. Click on Connections Tab
  5. Click on LAN Settings
  6. Uncheck "Bypass proxy server for local address"
  7. Uncheck "Use a proxy for your LAN"
  8. Click on OK
  9. Click on OK
  10. Close Internet Explorer
  11. Open Internet Explorer
