The running of adjust cost item entries is still required even though you set the Automatic Cost Adjustment setting to Always in Microsoft Dynamics NAV

Applies to: Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2Dynamics NAV 2009 Service Pack 1Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 Service Pack 1

This article applies to Microsoft Dynamics NAV for all countries and all language locales.

Symptoms

Assume that you upgrade released production orders or you create and post released production orders before you change the Automatic Cost Adjustment setting from Never to another option in Microsoft Dynamics NAV. In this situation, the released production orders do not have cost adjusted when the status of the released production orders is changed to Finished. The running of adjust cost item entries is still required to make the required cost adjustments to the output item ledger entries even though you set the Automatic Cost Adjustment setting to Always. This problem occurs in the following products:
  • Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 R2
  • Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009 Service Pack 1
  • Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 Service Pack 1
  • Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0

Cause

This problem occurs because the change of the Automatic Cost Adjustment setting in the inventory setup from Never to other options does not change the Allow Online Adjustment setting to True for open released production orders lines.

Code changes

Note Always test code fixes in a controlled environment before you apply the fixes to your production computers.
To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Change the code in the OnValidate trigger for the Automatic Cost Adjustment field in the Inventory Setup table (313) as follows:
    Existing code
    ...
    IF "Automatic Cost Adjustment" <> "Automatic Cost Adjustment"::Never THEN BEGIN
    Item.SETCURRENTKEY("Cost is Adjusted","Allow Online Adjustment");
    Item.SETRANGE("Cost is Adjusted",FALSE);
    Item.SETRANGE("Allow Online Adjustment",FALSE);

    ProdOrderLine.SETCURRENTKEY(Status,"Cost is Adjusted","Allow Online Adjustment");
    ProdOrderLine.SETRANGE(Status,ProdOrderLine.Status::Finished);
    ProdOrderLine.SETRANGE("Cost is Adjusted",FALSE);
    ProdOrderLine.SETRANGE("Allow Online Adjustment",FALSE);

    IF Item.FIND('-') OR ProdOrderLine.FIND('-') THEN
    MESSAGE(Text000);
    END;
    ...
    Replacement code
    ...
    IF "Automatic Cost Adjustment" <> "Automatic Cost Adjustment"::Never THEN BEGIN
    Item.SETCURRENTKEY("Cost is Adjusted","Allow Online Adjustment");
    Item.SETRANGE("Cost is Adjusted",FALSE);
    Item.SETRANGE("Allow Online Adjustment",FALSE);

    // Add the following line.
    UpdateRelProdOrderLine;
    // End of the line.

    ProdOrderLine.SETCURRENTKEY(Status,"Cost is Adjusted","Allow Online Adjustment");
    ProdOrderLine.SETRANGE(Status,ProdOrderLine.Status::Finished);
    ProdOrderLine.SETRANGE("Cost is Adjusted",FALSE);
    ProdOrderLine.SETRANGE("Allow Online Adjustment",FALSE);

    IF Item.FIND('-') OR ProdOrderLine.FIND('-') THEN
    MESSAGE(Text000);
    END;
    ...
  2. Create a new UpdateRelProdOrderLineas local function in the Inventory Setup table (313). To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Add a local variable, and specify the variable as follows:
      • Name: ProdOrderLine
      • DataType: Record
      • SubType: Prod. Order Line (5406)
    2. Add the following code in the function:
      WITH ProdOrderLine DO BEGIN
      SETCURRENTKEY(Status,"Cost is Adjusted","Allow Online Adjustment");
      SETRANGE(Status,Status::Released);
      SETRANGE("Cost is Adjusted",FALSE);
      SETRANGE("Allow Online Adjustment",FALSE);
      MODIFYALL("Allow Online Adjustment",TRUE);
      END;
