KB2583052 - FIX: The installation is not completed successfully when you try to install the Traditional Chinese edition of SQL Server 2008 R2 on a computer that is running the Traditional Chinese edition of Windows Server 2008

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

• You install the Traditional Chinese edition of Windows Server 2008 on a computer.

• You try to install the Traditional Chinese edition of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 on the computer.

In this scenario, the installation is not completed successfully. Additionally, you may receive the following error message in the Setup log:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

More Information

With the release of GDR 1 for SQL Server 2008 R2 and of Cumulative update package 3 for SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1, we are enabling the installation of Traditional Chinese on Windows Hong Kong. The instructions in this section will help you create a slipstream drop that merges the original release of SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and GDR 1 or of Cumulative update package 3 for SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1. After you create the slipstream drop, you can run Setup.exe as usual.

1. Copy your original Traditional Chinese SQL Server 2008 R2 source media to C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK.

2. Download the Traditional Chinese Service Pack for SQL Server 2008 R2 for all architectures from here. Make sure that you have Service Pack 1. You have to download all service pack architecture packages to make sure that you completely build the slipstream media. The names of the packages that you have to download are as follows:

   • SQLServer2008R2SP1-KB2528583-IA64-CHT.exe

   • SQLServer2008R2SP1-KB2528583-x64-CHT.exe

   • SQLServer2008R2SP1-KB2528583-x86-CHT.exe

3. Extract each SQL Server 2008 SP1 package to C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\SP as follows:

   • SQLServer2008R2SP1-KB2528583-IA64-CHT.exe /x:C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\SP

   • SQLServer2008R2SP1-KB2528583-x64-CHT.exe /x:C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\SP

   • SQLServer2008R2SP1-KB2528583-x86-CHT.exe /x:C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\SP

   Important Complete this step for all architectures to make sure that the original media is updated correctly.

4. View and request the SP1-GDR1 for SQL Server 2008 R2 for any or all architectures from here. Or, view and request Cumulative update package 3 for SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 for any or all architectures from here. You have to download all architecture packages to make sure that you completely build the slipstream media. The names of the packages that you have to download are as follows:

   • SQLServer2008R2-KB2583052-IA64.exe

   • SQLServer2008R2-KB2583052-x64.exe

   • SQLServer2008R2-KB2583052-x86.exe

   or

   • SQLServer2008R2SP1-KB2591748 IA64-CHT.exe

   • SQLServer2008R2SP1-KB2591748 x64-CHT.exe

   • SQLServer2008R2SP1-KB2591748 x86-CHT.exe

5. Extract each SQL Server 2008 SP1-GDR1 to C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\CU as follows:

   • SQLServer2008R2-KB2583052-IA64.exe /x:C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\CU

   • SQLServer2008R2-KB2583052-x64.exe /x:C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\CU

   • SQLServer2008R2-KB2583052-x86.exe /x:C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\CU

6. Copy Setup.exe from the CU extracted location to original source media location by using the following robocopy command:

   robocopy C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\CU C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK Setup.exe

7. Copy all files in C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\CU\<architecture>, except the Microsoft.SQL.Chainer.PackageData.dll, to C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\<architecture> to update the original files. To do this, use the following robocopy commands.
   
   Note Copy only the files. Do not copy the folders.
   

   • robocopy C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\CU\x86 C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\x86 /XF Microsoft.SQL.Chainer.PackageData.dll

   • robocopy C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\CU\x64 C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\x64 /XF Microsoft.SQL.Chainer.PackageData.dll

   • robocopy C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\CU\ia64 C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\ia64 /XF Microsoft.SQL.Chainer.PackageData.dll

8. Determine whether you have a DefaultSetup.ini at the following locations:

   • C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\x86

   • C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\x64

   • C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\ia64

   If you have a DefaultSetup.ini at these locations, add the following lines to each DefaultSetup.ini:
   
   

   PCUSOURCE = ".\SP" 
   CUSOURCE=".\CU"

   
   If you do NOT have a DefaultSetup.INI, create one that includes the following content:
   
   

   ;SQLSERVER2008 R2 Configuration File 
   [SQLSERVER2008] 
   PCUSOURCE=".\SP"
   
   CUSOURCE=".\CU"
   

   Copy to the following locations:

   • C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\x86

   • C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\x64

   • C:\SQLServer2008R2_HK\ia64

   This file will tell the Setup program where it should locate the SP and CU source media that you previously extracted.

9. Run Setup.exe as you usually would. You can verify that you are slipstreaming when you see the Ready to Install dialog box. On this dialog, (Slipstream) will be displayed.
