You received error message: Patch does not apply, or is blocked by another condition on your computer


When you install a patch to Visual Studio 2010 SP1 or Team Foundation System 2010 SP1, you may receive the following error message from the Installation Wizard:

KB (number) does not apply, or is blocked by another condition on your computer.
The installation will stop after you press the "Cancel" button.


The error is usually displayed because the user does not have installed on their systems the products targeted by the patch.


To resolve the issue:
  • Verify that you have the correct product installed on your system (Visual Studio 2010, or Team Foundation Server 2010).
  • Verify that you have installed the latest Service Pack released for the product (Service Pack 1).
  • Verify from the original KB article at that your system meets all the requirements.
  • Verify that you have enough space free in your system required to download and decompress and install the patch.
  • If needed, review the installation log file (HTML format) in your %TEMP% directory to verify if a different error was logged.
