Symptoms
Assume that you are monitoring a Windows Server 2008-based Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP) responder in a network environment. In this scenario, the value of the thisUpdate time stamp in the OCSP response is outdated by 24 hours. A more recent time stamp value that is based on the latest-issued delta certificate revocation list (CRL) should have been used.

This issue persists until the OCSP responder fetches the base and delta CRLs again.

This is a logging issue that does not affect the actual certificate validation process. The latest CRL is always used to validate certificates.

To configure an OCSP responder in Windows Server 2008, enable the Online Certificate Status Protocol role service under the Active Directory Certificate Services server role.
Cause
The issue occurs because the Online Responder Service (Ocspsvc.exe) retrieves the value of the thisUpdate field from the base CRL instead of from the delta CRL.
Resolution
Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites
To apply this hotfix, you must be running Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2). Additionally, you must enable the Online Certificate Status Protocol role service.

To use the hotfix in this package, you do not have to make any changes to the registry.
Restart requirement
You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix. To avoid restarting, stop the Online Certificate Status Protocol role service.
