Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You add a printer to a print server, and then you share the printer.

  • You enable the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe for scripting option on a client computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.

  • You browse to the shared printer by using Internet Explorer on the client computer. For example, you type the following path in the address bar: http://printservername/printername.

  • You try to connect to the shared print queue.

In this scenario, an Add Web Printer Connection dialog box that uses the HTTP printer path appears. This behavior indicates that Windows tries to create an HTTP printer connection instead of a Point and Print printer connection.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install this hotfix on the client computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
