Windows SharePoint Services missing in Windows Backup restore options

Applies to: Windows Small Business Server 2008 Standard

Windows SharePoint Services application may be missing in the Windows Server Backup restore options

The SharePoint Services Writer may not be registered properly

Use the following steps to resolve the issue:

1. Ensure the following registry keys are in place:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WindowsServerBackup\Application Support\{c2f52614-5e53-4858-a589-38eeb25c6184}]
"Application Identifier"="Windows Sharepoint Services"

2. Although the above registry key is in place, and the SharePoint writer shows up in the vssadmin list writers output, SharePoint as an application may still not be available as an option for the restore. In these scenarios, the following steps are recommended.

Please run this command to unregister the WSS writer:
stsadm -o unregisterwsswriter

Register the WSS writer again, as:
stsadm -o registerwsswriter

stsadm.exe is present in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\BIN directory for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.

Once the writer is registered correctly, the Windows SharePoint Services application would show up in the Windows Server Backup restore options.
