Changes to .xls file in offline folder is not synchronized automatically on Windows 7


Consider the following scenario:
  • You share a folder on Windows server. On Windows 7, you make this shared folder offline.
  • There is an .xls file in this folder.
  • You edit the .xls file, and then you save the .xls file to the offline folder.
  • You open the file from another computer.
In this scenario, you find that the changes to the file were not saved. When you manually synchronize the offline folder, you're notified of file conflict between file on the server and on this machine.

On Windows 7, click Start > Run and type regedit > Enter
1. Browse to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\NetCache
2. Right click on NetCache and select String.For name type SparseExclusionList.
3. Right click on the new created key and select Modify.
4. For value, paste the following line (not to include *.xls)
5. Save the changes and reboot the client machine.
