SBS 2011-Server Error in '/Remote' Application.


Symptoms


Unable to browse Remote Web Application.

Upon browsing Remote Web Application it fails with following Errors.

Server Error in '/Remote' Application.

Access to the path 'C:\Program Files\Windows Small Business Server\Logs\WebApp' is denied.

Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

 

Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'C:\Program Files\Windows Small Business Server\Logs\WebApp' is denied.

 

In IIS Logs located in C:\inetpub\logs\LogFiles\W3SVC1 we get the following error information.

When we enable Failed request Tracing for Remote Web Application for Error 500, the following errors are logged.

Cause


SBS Web  Workplace AppPool is set to use ApplicationPoolIdentity

Resolution


 

Change the  Identity for SBS WebWorkPlace AppPool fromApplicationPoolIdentity to NetworkService.

 

Using User Interface UI

 

  1. Open IIS Manager
  1. In the Connections pane, expand the server node and click Application Pools.
  2. On the Application Pools page, select the SBS Web Workplace Application Pool, and then click Advanced Settings in the Actions pane.
  3. For the Identity property, click the ... button to open the Application Pool Identity dialog box.
  4. From the built-in account, select the NetworkService.
  5. Click OK to dismiss the Application Pool Identity dialog box.

 

Using Command Line

 

Open command prompt using Administrative Privileges.

 

Run the following command.

 

%windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd set apppool "SBS Web Workplace AppPool" /processModel.identityType:NetworkService
