On-screen keyboard is not displayed after you switch between two desktops on a Tablet PC that is running Windows 7


Symptoms


Consider the following scenario:
  • You develop an application that uses the CreateDesktop function to create a new desktop.
  • You create a new desktop by using the application on a touch-enabled Tablet PC that is running Windows 7.
  • You perform an operation on the desktops. For example, you switch to the default desktop, and then you switch back to the new desktop.
  • You try to enable the on-screen keyboard on the new desktop.
In this scenario, the on-screen keyboard is not displayed on the new desktop.

Cause


This issue is caused by an error that occurs in the Tabtip.exe process.

Resolution


Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
