Symptoms
Assume that you use the Tasklist.exe tool on a computer that is running one of the following operating systems:
For example, assume that you run the following command:
tasklist.exe /FI “IMAGENAME eq lsass.exe”
In this situation, the Tasklist.exe tool displays the following message even when the Lsass.exe process is running:
- Windows Vista
- Windows Server 2008
- Windows 7
- Windows Server 2008 R2
- Windows 8
- Windows Server 2012
For example, assume that you run the following command:
tasklist.exe /FI “IMAGENAME eq lsass.exe”
In this situation, the Tasklist.exe tool displays the following message even when the Lsass.exe process is running:

Cumulative Update information
To resolve this issue in Windows 8 or in Windows Server 2012, install the cumulative update 2811660. Hotfix information
Important This hotfix has been re-released to address an issue in which the digital signature on files produced and signed by Microsoft will expire prematurely, as described in Microsoft Security Advisory 2749655.A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article.
