You cannot delete DNS PTR records that were created in Windows 2003

Applies to: Windows Server 2008 DatacenterWindows Server 2008 EnterpriseWindows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter

When you try to use the DNS scnap-in to delete DNS PTR records that were created in Windows Server 2003 prior to installing KB 842127 the operation may not work as expected.
In the Management Console it might appear as if the record was deleted but after a refresh or some time it reappears.

Before installation of KB 842127 on Windows Server 2003 it was possible, that DNS PTR records were created that contain uppercase characters.
Such records cannot be deleted by the DNS snap-in.

KB 842127 prevents the creation of further PTR records containing uppercase characters however it does not remove the existing records.
Therefore it might happen as well in Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 that you are unable to delete records, that have been created in Windows Server 2003.

In this case please follow one of the Methods described in the "More information" Section of KB 842127 to delete or convert the uppercase records.
