WMI does not work correctly after you run the OOBE in Windows RT, Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012

Assume that you log on to a computer that is running Windows RT, Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 for the first time after you run the Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE). In this situation, the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) does not work correctly, and then certain scripts that are based on Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) fail.


This issue occurs because the WMI service does not reflect the updated computer name that the user sets during setup. Therefore, certain WMI queries fail.


Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

To apply this hotfix, you must be running Windows RT, Windows 8, or Windows Server 2012.
