Order to purchase order won't create a PO when you copy Project/Task

This article provides a solution to an issue that an order to purchase sales order won't create a purchase order (PO) when you use the option to copy project and task to purchase order.

Applies to:   Microsoft Dynamics SL 2011, Microsoft Dynamics SL 2011 Service Pack 1
Original KB number:   2800578

Symptoms

An order to purchase sales order won't create a purchase order when you use the option to copy project and task to purchase order. The copy Project and Task option is defined in the Order Management Setup (40.950) on the Order Shipper Entry tab by selecting the Send Project/Task from Sales Order to Purchase Order.

Cause

The Inventory Issues account defined in Inventory Setup (10.950) on the Inventory Accounts tab isn't defined with an account that is associated with a Project Controller Account Category.

Resolution

To fix this issue, use the following steps:

  1. Access Inventory Setup (10.950) and select the Inventory Accounts tab.
  2. Verify that the Inventory Issues Account is defined as an account that is linked to a Project Account Category.

More information

When the Project/Task is copied from the sales order to the purchase order, it will create a Goods for Project Sales Order purchase for type on the Purchase Order detail. This functionality falls within the Project Allocated Inventory functionality that requires the Inventory Issues account to be linked to a Project Account Category.

If the Issues Account isn't defined in Inventory Setup as an Account related to a Project Account Category, an event log will be generated as follows:

An error occurred while processing Sales Order 'XXXXXX' in company 'XXXX' for Vendor 'XXXXXX'. Business Rule Violation 28102.

The Issue Account XXXX in IN Setup (10.950.00) must have an account category set up for the current Purchase in Chart of Accounts Maintenance (01.260.00).
