You cannot manage permissions or create virtual machines on a file share by using System Center 2012 SP1 VMM in Windows Server 2012

Applies to: Windows Server 2012 DatacenterWindows Server 2012 DatacenterWindows Server 2012 Essentials

Symptoms

Assume that you have a file share that was created on an EMC VNX storage device on a computer that is running Windows Server 2012. When you try to manage permissions or create virtual machines on the file share by using System Center 2012 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Virtual Machine Manager (VMM), the operations fail.

Note This hotfix also resolves the issue that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) article:
2840565 Calls that are made by using pass-through APIs fails on a Windows Server 2012-based computer

Cause

This issue occurs because the CIM_AssociatedPrivilege class that is exposed by the VNX NAS SMI-S provider contains two keys that are references and one key that is a string. However, the SMI-S Passthrough component of the System Management Application Programming Interface (SMAPI) assumes that all the keys are references.
