When trying to PXE boot a x86 UEFI-based system, you may encounter one of the following symptoms
- System may obtain an IP address but do not complete the PXE boot process.
- System may attempt to PXE boot but returns to the BIOS boot options.
- Various PXE boot errors (Depending on the exact hardware).
This can occur if the Windows Deployment Services Server is running the following operating systems:
- Windows Server 2003
- Windows Server 2008
- Windows Server 2008 R2
Update the Windows Deployment Services (WDS) server to Windows Server 2012 and make sure you add a Windows 8 x86 boot.wim.
The x86 UEFI support was added to Windows Server 2012 WDS.
