Consider the following scenario:
- You are using Windows 8 tablet or RT based machine and set the “Turn Off Display” Power Option to Never in Plugged in scenario which would disable the Connected Standby function.
- Keep the system idle with AC plugged in
- Sometimes, you will find the tablet will still enter Connected Standby and the display would be turned off.
Windows will trigger Automatic Maintenance while the machine is idle and with AC plugged in. During the scheduled task, WINSAT.EXE will be triggered to perform some jobs and do performance evaluation. It is expected, and WINSAT.EXE will change the current power scheme for highest performance to complete the job faster and get the accurate Windows Experience Index. However the change of power scheme will set the “Turn Off Display” setting other than Never and Connected Standby would be possibly triggered.
This behavior is by design.
