Hotfix corrects SMB error codes that differ from SMB protocol documentation in Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012

This article describes a hotfix for Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 that corrects Server Message Block (SMB) error codes that differ from SMB protocol documentation.

After you install this hotfix, the SMB server returns different error codes in one of the following scenarios to comply with the SMB protocol documentation.

Scenario 1

When an SMB client computer sends a request that requests to reconnect to a persistent handle that has time-out setting, different error codes are returned.

Scenario 2

You have an SMB client computer that sends a request that requests to reconnect to a persistent handle. However, the request does not comply with the requirements that are specified in the SMB protocol documentation.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

To apply this hotfix, you must be running Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012.
