The Maps app freezes on a Windows 8-based device when you start the app for the first time

Symptoms


After you turn on a Windows-8 based device that has a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) sensor, the Maps app freezes when you start the app for the first time.

Note After you restart the Maps app, the app works correctly until the next time that you restart the device.

Cause


The issue occurs because of a race condition in the Windows Location API.

Resolution


To resolve this issue, install update rollup 2862768, or apply the hotfix that is described in this article.
