Applies to: Lync Server 2010 Enterprise EditionLync Server 2010 Standard Edition

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. You take one of the following actions:
  • You apply the Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Mobility Service update for October 2012 to a Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Director.
  • You apply the Lync Server 2010 Mobility Service update for October 2012 by using the Cumulative Server Update Installer (LyncServerUpdateInstaller.exe) from the GUI or from a command line.
In this scenario, the Microsoft Lync 2010 mobile client sign-in process fails.

Cause

When you apply the Lync Server 2010 Mobility Service update for October 2012, the Cumulative Server Update Installer (LyncServerUpdateInstaller.exe) adds the Mcx virtual application to the local installation of Internet Information Services (IIS) on a Lync Server 2010 Director.

Note The Lync Server 2010 Director server role supports the Autodiscover virtual application together with the local installation of IIS.
