Audio and video pairing between Lync VDI and virtual Lync 2013 client fails

Symptoms


The Microsoft Lync 2013 VDI component does not finish the process of pairing audio and video with the virtual Lync 2013 client when either of the following conditions is true:
  • The Lync 2013 client is started from a Windows Server Remote Desktop Services (RDS).
  • The Lync 2013 client is started from a virtual machine (VM).

Cause


This problem occurs because the Lync Server CsClientPolicy policy for the EnableMediaRedirection parameter is not enabled.

Resolution


To resolve this problem, follow these steps on a Windows-based computer that hosts the Lync Server Management Shell.

Step 1: Start Lync Management Shell

Follow the appropriate steps for the version of the operating system that you are running.
Windows Server 2012 or Windows 8
  1. Press the Windows button to access the Start page.
  2. Click or tap the Lync Server Management Shell tile.
Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008, or Windows 7
  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, click Microsoft Lync Server 2013, and then click Lync Server Management Shell.

Step 2: View or update the policy status

Run the following Lync Server 2013 PowerShell commands to view or update the current status of the Lync Server 2013 CsClientPolicy policy for the EnableMediaRedirection parameter.
View the status
  1. Run the following example commands to view the status of CsClientPolicy -EnableMediaRedirection:
    • All policies:

      Get-CsclientPolicy 
    • Site-level policy:

      Get-CsclientPolicy -Identity site:Central 
    • User-level policy:

      Get-CsclientPolicy -Identity SalesPolicy 
  2. In the policy list, locate EnableMediaRedirection. If EnableMediaRedirection is set to True, it is enabled.

    Note The default value for CsClientPolicy -EnableMediaRedirection is False.
Update the status
Run the following example commands to update the status of CsClientPolicy -EnableMediaRedirection to True:
  • Set-CsClientPolicy -Identity site:Central -EnableMediaRedirection $True (Site level policy) 
  • Set-CsclientPolicy -Identity SalesPolicy -EnableMediaRedirection $True (User level policy)
