Note Although the DSClient is available on the Windows 95 and Windows 98 operating systems, this article concerns the Windows NT 4.0 version. Therefore, any reference to DSClient, unless otherwise stated, refers to the DSClient for Windows NT 4.0.
The DSClient takes advantage of features provided by the Windows 2000 Active Directory Service. These client extensions were developed for customers who want to deploy Windows 2000 Server in environments with Windows NT 4.0-based clients.
Acquire the DSClient
Windows NTThe DSClient for Windows NT 4.0 is freely available for download from the following Microsoft Web site:
Install the DSClientThe prerequisites for the DSClient are:
- Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6a.
- Internet Explorer 4.01 or later.

Remove the DSClientThe DSClient can be removed through the Add/Remove Programs utility in Control Panel:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Double-click Directory Services Client.
Note The following dynamic link libraries (DLLs) will not be removed:
