Windows crashes when you use ETW to trace an Afd.sys file in Windows 7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

Symptoms


Assume that a computer is running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. When you use Event Tracing for Windows (ETW) to trace the Afd.sys file of a Transport Driver Interface (TDI) filter driver, Windows crashes. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

STOP: 0x0000000A (parameter1 , parameter2 , parameter3 , parameter4 )
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Notes
  • The parameters in this error message vary that depends on the configuration of the computer.
  • Not all 0x0000000A errors are caused by this issue.

Resolution


Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article.
