This article describes the issues that are fixed in Update Rollup 5 for Microsoft System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager Service Pack 1 (SP1). Additionally, this article contains the installation instructions for Update Rollup 5 for System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager SP1.

Update Rollup 5 for System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager SP1 includes all previous update rollups for System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager SP1.


Issues that are fixed in this update rollup

Issue 1

A configuration error occurs if Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) is configured to use a dynamic disk as the virtual machine pass-through disk.

Issue 2

During a virtual machine live storage migration, the connection for the virtual machine is invalid if the network switch on the destination host is changed.

Issue 3

Virtual hard disk (*.vhdx) files are not found on an NAS library share.

Issue 4

An exception error at Engine_Adhc_Operations!Microsoft.VirtualManager.Engine.Adhc.HostRefresher.GatherVirtualNetworkInformation occurs, and the SCVMM service crashes, if the SCVMM service is disabled on a teamed network adapter.

Issue 5

VMM Server crashes if the "Create VM template from VM" job is canceled and then restarted.

Issue 6

The VMM console does not show the details of an uplink profile when the uplink profile is added to a logical switch. This issue occurs if the name of the uplink profile contains the following string:

Issue 7

When an NAS provider is discovered, the credentials do not include the domain name.

Issue 8

Cloud associations for virtual machines are randomly lost in VMM.

Issue 9

Virtual machines in VMware that are connected by using a Cisco N1000V dvSwitch are not available in VMM. Therefore, you cannot manage the virtual machine in VMM.

Issue 10

The following error is generated when data is updated:

"System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): The server principal "" is not able to access the database "DBA" under the current security context."

Known issues for this update

  • You cannot apply this cumulative update to a computer that is running Update Rollup 1 for System Center 2012 Service Pack 1. In order to install Update Rollup 5 for System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager Service Pack 1, you have to uninstall Update Rollup 1 for System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager Service Pack 1.     Note There are no known issues when you apply Update Rollup 5 to a system that is running Update Rollup 2 or later updates for System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager Service Pack 1.

Installation information

To manually install the update packages, run the following command from an elevated command prompt:
msiexec.exe /update packagename

For example, to install the Update Rollup 5 update package for Virtual Machine Manager server (KB2904727), run the following command:

msiexec.exe /update kb2904727_vmmserver_amd64.msp

Uninstallation information

To uninstall this update rollup, use the Programs and Features item in Control Panel.

Important Uninstalling Update Rollup 5 VMM Server package deletes the registry key value "VmmID" under the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine manager Serve\Setup

Therefore, you should back up the "VmmID" registry key before you uninstall this update rollup. After you uninstall the update rollup, you should restore the registry key.
