Symptoms

When you create a deeply nested subfolder in Microsoft Outlook in Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 environment, an infinitely nested subfolder path is created. When a service tries to retrieve the nested subfolder path, the Store.exe process crashes on the Mailbox server.

Cause

This issue occurs because the Store.exe process searches for the parent folder recursively if the folder is not the root folder. This causes a stack overflow to occur intermittently.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the following update rollup:

2936871 Update Rollup 6 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 3

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
