Explorer.exe freezes if PDW is installed in Windows Server 2012

Symptoms


Assume that you install Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Parallel Data Warehouse (PDW) on a Windows Server 2012-based computer. When users log on the server, the Explorer.exe process freezes.

Cause


This issue occurs because of a deadlock caused by the Shell32.dll file.

Resolution


To resolve this issue, install update rollup 2928678, or install the hotfix that is described in this article.
