Symptoms

When you use Internet Explorer 8 to browser a website for some time on a computer that runs Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, some user interface buttons such as the back or forward button stops working and Internet Explorer may crash.

Note You have to restart the main windows of Internet Explorer 8 to recover from this issue.

Cause

This issue occurs because of a resource leak in Internet Explorer 8. When you browse websites that trigger this resource leak while the frame process runs, the issue occurs.

Note By default, the Loosely Coupled Internet Explorer (LCIE) feature is enabled in Internet Explorer 8. When the LCIE feature is enabled, the frame process may continue to run until Windows is shut down or restarted.
