FIX: Access violation when you query sys.extended_properties table in SQL Server 2012 or SQL Server 2014

Applies to: SQL Server 2012 EnterpriseSQL Server 2012 StandardSQL Server 2012 Developer More

Consider the following scenario:
  • You create a user-defined table type in Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or SQL Server 2014.
  • You add some extended properties at the column level to the user-defined table type.
  • You run a query against the sys.extended_properties table.
In this scenario, an access violation may occur in the SQL Server and a mini dump file is generated.

The issue was first fixed in the following cumulative update of SQL Server.

Cumulative Update 2 for SQL Server 2012 SP2

Cumulative Update 3 for SQL Server 2014

Cumulative Update 11 for SQL Server 2012 SP1

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
