User-mode thread pool reliability improvements for multi-node systems in Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012

Applies to: Windows Server 2012 DatacenterWindows Server 2012 DatacenterWindows Server 2012 Standard More

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a multi-node system that is running Windows RT, Windows 8, or Windows Server 2012.
  • You run an application on multiple nodes.
In this scenario, the full service freezes or the application performance decreases if multiple nodes work for the application at the same time.

Cause

This issue occurs because the working tasks on different nodes race with one another. Therefore, the leftover tasks are unpicked up when the thread pool is empty.
