Applies to: Internet Explorer 11

About Narrator

Narrator is a light-duty screen-reader utility that is included in Microsoft Windows. Narrator reads dialog boxes and window controls in several basic applications for Windows. Narrator is included with every copy of Microsoft Windows, and it provides a measure of access to Windows without the need to install additional software as long as the computer includes a sound card and speakers or headphones.

Consider the following scenario:

  • You browse to a website by using an immersive mode in Internet Explorer 11.
  • The website has articles together with images.
  • You click the read button to enable the reading view feature.
  • You run Narrator to read the alternative text for images.
In this scenario, Narrator reads the html elements (such as div, br).
