Assume that you try to determine the path from which an executable is started by using the GetProcessImageName function or the GetProcessImageFileName function. If the executable is started, shut down, and then started again after the containing folder is renamed, the original path is reported.
This issue occurs because the GetProcessImageName or GetProcessImageFileName from the process status API (PSAPI) can be stale.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. We recommend that you avoid determining the path from an executable by using the GetProcessImageName or GetProcessImageFileName functions.
