This article describes an issue that occurs after you perform a Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) backup job in Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. A hotfix is available to resolve this issue. The hotfix has a prerequisite.
This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
- The VSS backup job finishes successfully.
- The VSS service stops after an idle time-out.

- This Stop error indicates a SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED issue.
- The parameters in this Stop error message vary, and that depends on the configuration of the computer.
- Not all "0x0000007E" Stop errors are caused by this issue.
