"0x0000007F" Stop error when you run both data encryption and antivirus software in Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

This article describes an issue that occurs when you run data encryption and an antivirus software in Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. A hotfix is available to resolve this issue. The hotfix has a prerequisite. Update 3004375 is requiredto enable this hotfix after the installation.


The Stop error message resembles the following:
STOP: 0x0000007F (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)

  • This Stop error indicates an UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP issue.
  • The parameters in this Stop error message vary, and that depends on the configuration of the computer.
  • Not all "0x0000007F" Stop errors are caused by this issue.
This issue occurs if filter drivers of the software that are installed for security purpose catch operations of one another.


To resolve this issue, install the hotfix that is described in this article, and also install Microsoft security advisory: Update to improve Windows command-line auditing: February 10, 2015.

  • This hotfix adds the GUID_ECP_IO_DEVICE_HINT feature to Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. It enables filter drivers to handle reparse points whose target is a different volume.
  • Event ID 1108 is logged to the security event log instead of the Event ID 4688 if you only install hotfix 3027577.
