Hotfix Package 2 for Microsoft Application Virtualization 5.0 Service Pack 3

Applies to: Microsoft Application Virtualization 5.0 for Remote Desktop Services Service Pack 3Microsoft Application Virtualization 5.0 for Windows Desktops Service Pack 3

This article describes a hotfix package that contains hotfixes for issues that occur in Microsoft Office Click-to-Run and Microsoft Application Virtualization 5.0 (App-V 5.0) Service Pack 3 (SP3).

Note We recommend that you test hotfixes before you deploy them in a production environment. Because the builds are cumulative, each new hotfix release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous update package. We recommend that you consider applying the most recent fix release that contains the most necessary hotfixes.

Issues that are fixed in this hotfix package

This hotfix package fixes the following issues:
  • Issue 1: Office Click-to-Run applications do not start when you try to open Office documents from SharePoint

App-V 5.0 tried to virtualize Office Click-to-Run applications. This broke integration with Microsoft SharePoint and prevented Office Click-to-Run applications from successfully starting when the user tried to edit Office documents that are hosted on SharePoint sites.
  • Issue 2: The App-V 5.0 client held a handle to the user profile that prevented the user profile service from deleting the profile when a user logged off

The App-V 5.0 client service held a handle to the user's copy-on-write directory. This prevented the profile from being deleted when the user logged off. In turn, a temporary profile was created when the user logged on again. This prevented the publication of applications that were allowed for publication for the user.

To apply this hotfix, you must have Service Pack 3 for Microsoft Application Virtualization 5.0 installed.

Installation information

If the original client was deployed by using the .msi file, you must apply the .msp file to have a successful update. To extract the .msp file, run the following command:

AppV5.0SP3_Client_KB3060458.exe /LAYOUT

Important When you try to uninstall an update, the attempt fails if a just-in-time virtualization (JIT-V) package is in use.

This issue was introduced with the JIT-V feature in App-V 5.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2). All SP2 and SP3 hotfix (patch-level) releases might experience this issue if the following conditions are true:
  • You install the client by using a Windows Installer (.msi) file, and then you apply updates by using a Microsoft Installer Patch (.msp) file.
  • You try to uninstall an update by using Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
  • A JIT-V enabled package is running on the system.

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Start local services.
  2. Stop the Microsoft App-V Client service.
  3. Uninstall the update by using Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
  4. Start the Microsoft App-V Client service.

Restart information

You must restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.
