This article describes an issue in which characters overlap and are unreadable in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8, Windows RT, or Windows Server 2012. An update is available to resolve this issue. Before you install this update, check out the Prerequisites section.
Symptoms
This issue occurs on applications that use the ScriptShapeOpenType function to obtain glyphs information and use the ScriptPlaceOpenType function to obtain glyphs width information from Unicode Script Processor for Uniscribe. The glyphs width information should be returned in visual order. However, it is returned in logical order.Â
Cause
This issue occurs because the ScriptPlaceOpenType function incorrectly returns glyphs data in logical order.
How to obtain this update
Important If you install a language pack after you install this update, you must reinstall this update. Therefore, we recommend that you install any language packs that you need before you install this update. For more information, see Add language packs to Windows.

This update does not replace a previously released update.
