MS15-110: Description of the security update for Excel 2013: October 13, 2015

This security update resolves vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office that could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted Microsoft Office file. To learn more about these vulnerabilities, see Microsoft Security Bulletin MS15-110.

Note To apply this security update, you must have the release version of Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Office 2013 installed on the computer.

For a complete list of affected versions of Microsoft Office software, see KB3096440 .

Improvements and fixes

  • Translates some terms in multiple languages to make sure that the meaning is correct.
  • This update changes the way temporary file names are generated for features such as opening read-only files from UNC shared folders, sending workbooks as email attachments, and interacting with shared workbooks. This makes sure that the correct operation occurs when many temporary files are created and opened.
