Silverlight deprecation affecting digital asset management in Dynamics Marketing

Microsoft Dynamics Marketing uses Silverlight to deliver digital asset management capabilities, such as uploading, marking up, or annotating files. However, the Microsoft Edge browser and the version 45 release of Google Chrome (expected in September 2015) do not include support for Silverlight.

Deprecation of support for Silverlight in these browsers will result in the loss of some digital asset management capabilities.

Microsoft Dynamics Marketing users can continue to access Silverlight components for digital asset management capabilities by using Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari, as these browsers will support Silverlight into the foreseeable future.

However, to ensure that the digital asset management capabilities will continue to function in browsers that no longer support Silverlight, the application components within Microsoft Dynamics Marketing that leverage Silverlight will be replaced with HTML-based components. In Dynamics Marketing 2015 Update 1.2, the application will support HTML-based components for the following functions:

• Uploading files
• Search, retrieve, and access files and folders
• Access folders and attachments related to any entity record

Some capabilities that rely on Silverlight will not be supported on non-Silverlight compliant browsers in Dynamics Marketing 2015 Update 1.2, but are planned for support in or beyond Dynamics Marketing 2016 Update.  These functions include:

• Viewing or adding markups to images or document files
• Accessing their file library to obtain a filtered view of folders marked as libraries
• Inserting files into social media messages and emails drafted using the drag-and-drop editor

Soon after Dynamics Marketing 2016 Update 1, we expect to permanently deprecate and remove Silverlight-based components and replace them with HTML-based components.
