June 7, 2016, update for Excel 2016 (KB3115139)

Applies to: Excel 2016

This article describes update KB3115139 for Microsoft Excel 2016, which was released on June 7, 2016. This update has a prerequisite.

Be aware that the update on the Microsoft Download Center applies to the Microsoft Installer (.msi)-based edition of Office 2016. It doesn't apply to the Office 2016 Click-to-Run editions, such as Microsoft Office 365 Home. (How to determine?)

Improvements and fixes

  • This update deletes the Power View button from the Import Data dialog box. But this update doesn't apply for external connections to Analysis Services. See more information about the Power View roadmap.
  • This update changes the way temporary file names are generated for features such as opening read-only files from share folders, sending workbooks as email attachments, and interacting with shared workbooks. Therefore, more valid names for .tmp files can be generated, and more .tmp files can be opened before a duplicate name occurs.
  • This update includes the following fixes and improvements for the Power Pivot Add-in:
    • Deletes unsupported KPI icon sets from Power Pivot.
    • Renaming a measure in the PivotTable field list will apply that change to the name in Power Pivot.
    • Fixes issues that occur when you use the option to save password for connections to SQL Server from Power Pivot.
    • Fixes issues that occur when you import data into Power Pivot from Analysis Services.
    • Enables changes to the data type of a column after you rename the column in Power Pivot.
    • Fixes issues that occur when you use column sort or filter control in Power Pivot after you add a table to the data model.
    • Improves support for DAX formula auto-complete in right-to-left languages.
    • Fixes some Power Pivot help links that point to help topics in an incorrect language.
    • Fixes issues that might occur when you use unsupported Power Pivot KPI icon sets.
    • Fixes issues that might occur when you use copy or paste operation in Power Pivot on a measure that contains a KPI.
    • Fixes the issue of the display of field names in right-to-left languages in Power Pivot diagram view after you use the drag-and-drop operation.
    • Supports correct visualization based on data type of Power Pivot column that's created by Get & Transform queries.
    • Fixes some missing localization of strings in Power Pivot.
  • When you launch Excel by using the Excel icon, you can create a separate Excel.exe process.

Note To enable this functionality, you need to follow the instructions in the "Registry information" section.
  • Fixes the following issues:
    • When you set the name of a range to a custom user-defined function name in Excel 2016, Excel 2016 crashes.
    • When you scroll a worksheet in Excel 2016, a text that's formatted with Wrap text and Center Across Selection isn't displayed.
    • The Workbook_BeforeClose event doesn't occur after the Cancel value is set to True.
    • When you use the 32-bit version of Excel 2016 to process large amounts of data in the 64-bit version of Windows, you receive the following error messages:
Excel cannot complete this task with available resources. CHoose less data or close other applications. Continue without Undo.

There isn't enough memory to complete this action.
For example, this issue occurs when you update a large pivot table in the 32-bit version of Excel 2016. See KB3160741 for more information.
    • When you edit gradients and borders for conditional formatting rules in Excel 2016, Excel 2016 may crash.
    • When you copy some cells from Excel 2016 and paste them as a picture to other documents, the format of the picture is displayed incorrectly.
