MS16-070: Description of the security update for Word 2013: June 14, 2016

This security update resolves vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office that could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted Office file. To learn more about these vulnerabilities, see Microsoft Security Bulletin MS16-070.

Note To apply this security update, you must have the release version of Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Office 2013 installed on the computer.

Improvements and fixes

This security update contains improvements and fixes for the following nonsecurity issues:
  • When you drag some email messages from Outlook 2013 to Word 2013, Word 2013 and Outlook 2013 may crash.
  • Nonbreaking hyphen is displayed as square in some fonts in the Navigation pane.
  • Find and Replace doesn't highlight the first word that matches the search criteria.
  • When you run an Outlook add-in to call the body.getAsync method on the Scheduling Assistant page in Outlook 2013, Outlook 2013 may crash.
  • When you convert a document that has basic line shapes that have different line widths to a PDF or XPS file in Word 2013, the basic line shapes are displayed as having the same width.

How to get and install the update

Method 1: Microsoft Update

This update is available from Microsoft Update. When you turn on automatic updating, this update will be downloaded and installed automatically.
