Symptoms

When the secure storage device enters device power state D3 in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2, the storage device loses authorization. Therefore, you must reauthenticate by using the PIN pad on the device after the device switches back to D0 device power state.

Resolution

To fix this issue, install the May 2016 update rollup for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 (KB3156418).
