This article describes a scenario in which you can't print from an application to a multifunction printer that's connected to a USB port. This issue occurs if both a v3 and v4 printer driver are installed on the same USB port.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • A USB multifunction printer that supports both a FAX device and a printer device is attached to a Windows-based system.

  • The driver for the FAX device is based on the Version 3 (v3) printer driver model. The driver for the printer device is based on the Version 4 (v4) printer driver model.

  • Both drivers are installed on the same USB port.

In this scenario, print jobs are unsuccessful.

Cause

This behavior is by design.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, install the v3 and v4 printer drivers on separate USB ports.
