FIX: Counters for job objects created by SQL Server Trusted Launchpad are not visible in Windows Performance Monitor

The following issue occurs when you use SQL Server R Services in SQL Server 2016:

  • Windows Performance Monitor may not show the counters for the job objects that are created by SQL Server Trusted Launchpad service. Therefore, you cannot use Windows Performance Monitor to get the statistics of these job objects.

Note Launchpad service creates and uses job objects to govern resources for external process. These job objects are named as <SQL INSTANCE NAME>_External_Resource_Pool_<Timestamp>.

This issue occurs because Windows Performance Monitor doesn't have the permission to view the job objects that are created by Launchpad service account.

The issue was first fixed in the following cumulative update of SQL Server:
Recommendation: Install the latest cumulative update for SQL Server

To work around this issue, use Logman utility to view the counters for job objects created by Launchapad service.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
