FIX: MDS business rule doesn't work if the Code value contains a leading space in SQL Server MDS Add-in for Excel

Applies to: SQL Server 2012 DeveloperSQL Server 2012 EnterpriseSQL Server 2012 Enterprise Core

Consider the following scenario:
  • You create a business rule in SQL Server Master Data Services (MDS).
  • You restrict the value of the Code attribute in the business rule to be a positive number only.
  • You publish a new entry in the MDS Add-in for Microsoft Excel.

In this scenario if the Code attribute contains a leading space, the attribute is invalid and the ValidationStatus column incorrectly displays Validation Succeeded. However when the data is refreshed, the ValidationStatus column correctly displays Validation Failed.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
