FIX: Error when you execute DBCC CLONEDATABASE on an "Always Encrypted" enabled database in SQL Server 2014 or 2016

When you execute the DBCC CLONEDATABASE on a database that has "Always Encrypted" feature enabled in Microsoft SQL Server 2014 or 2016, you may receive error messages that resemble the following. Additionally, a stack dump file is generated.

Msg 596, Level 21, State 1, Line LineNumber

Cannot continue the execution because the session is in the kill state.

Msg 0, Level 20, State 0, Line LineNumber

A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.


This issue is fixed in the following cumulative update for SQL Server:

       Cumulative Update 3 for SQL Server 2016 SP1

       Cumulative Update 6 for SQL Server 2014 SP2
