FIX: Access violation for spatial datatypes query via linked server in SQL Server

Applies to: SQL Server 2014 EnterpriseSQL Server 2017 Enterprise on WindowsSQL Server 2016 Service Pack 1

Symptoms


Assume that you query spatial datatypes through a linked server by using the OPENROWSET or OPENQUERY function in Microsoft SQL Server. If the query is executed in multiple threads, an access violation error may occur.

Resolution


This issue is fixed in the following cumulative updates for SQL Server:

      Cumulative Update 1 for SQL Server 2017

      Cumulative Update 9 for SQL Server 2016 RTM

      Cumulative Update 6 for SQL Server 2016 SP1

      Cumulative Update 7 for SQL Server 2014 SP2
