iSCSI target can't be detected if connections use different authentication in Windows Server

Applies to: Windows Server 2019, all versionsWindows Server 2012 R2Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter More

Symptom

Assume that you set up two Internet Small Computer Systems Interface (iSCSI) connections to an iSCSI target. One connection uses Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol (CHAP) or Reverse CHAP for authentication, and the other connection does not configure authentication. In this scenario, Windows cannot detect the iSCSI target.

Cause

This issue occurs because iSCSI failover does not support multiple authentication.

Resolution

To fix this issue, set the authentication settings to be the same on both iSCSI connections or initiators.
